Meet our legacy at Bickmore Farms: Wendell and Avaline Bickmore
Wendell Bickmore worked driving an Archway Cookie Truck and was an avid hunter and fisherman. Anyone who knew him knew that white perch fishing was his favorite at Little Boyd Lake. Also known as Smokey Bickmore, his vegetable garden was his pride and joy.
Avaline Bickmore was the sweetest woman that ever lived and dedicated to her family and friends. She woke up at 4:30 in the morning to “catch a ride” to the shoe factory she worked in most of her life. She never held a driver’s license but always found a way to get anywhere she wanted to go. She understood “networking” before it became a pop culture term.
Both worked hard and despite that always made time for family. For years they carved names into pumpkins for their family and friends. It was a time honored tradition to see the name carved into the smallest pumpkin and then see it grow as summer turned into fall. The name carving tradition will be a part of each Bickmore Farms’ pumpkin.
Wendell and Avaline raised six children. They had too many to count grandchildren and countless great-grandchildren and now even more with what are great-great-grandchildren.
